The Debate Over - Overtime!

A recent article in the Times Union contains comments by a reader disgusted by the amount of overtime that cops receive in some departments and the fact that more senior cops get the first right of refusla on overtime (i.e., a standard rotation list, by seniority, common to many contracts!). They are avoiding the obvious. If a department wants to lower overtime costs, the solution is simple - instead of paying one cop 140k to work tons of OT and burning that cop out (and fast might I add) hire more cops!!!! If the employer is offering the OT, then they need the coverage. Stop trying to avoid additional health insurance that comes with hiring additional employees and start focusing on getting the right number of cops out on the street!
